Did you ever play the game Follow the Leader as a child? It is a game where one child is chosen as “The Leader” or “head of the line”, then the children all line up behind the leader. The leader then quickly moves around, and all the children must mimic (copy) the leader’s actions. Any players who fail to follow or do what the leader does are out of the game. When only one person other than the leader remains, that player becomes the leader, and the game begins again with all players joining the line once again.
Even though this is a children’s game, Follow the Leader provides a great framework for what we should be doing to become a better leader in our own professional lives.
